SB Newcomers Cycling: Mission Ridge, Mountain Drive & Park Lane
Saturday ride with rolling hills and steep climbs
Hans and Erik lead this Saturday ride on roads the Newcomers group doesn't often use, with a few short, punchy hills. From the Old Mission the route climbs Mission Ridge Road to West Mountain Drive, passes through the San Ysidro Ranch gates, then tackles very steep Park Lane and more hills before the views from Bella Vista Drive. It finishes through Summerland and past Butterfly Beach to Lighthouse Coffee on Chapala Street, next door to Kanaloa Seafood.
Riders of all levels are welcome, and the group regroups several times along the way. If the big climbs aren't for you, you can drop down to the coast early, near San Ysidro Ranch. Be comfortable in city traffic and download the route beforehand. If you ride to the start, note that a few blocks of State Street are closed to bikes for the farmers market.
