Lotusland: A Tale of Two Architects
Anthony Grumbine on the buildings of Ganna Walska's estate
Lotusland is famous for its gardens, but this talk looks at its often-overlooked architecture. Architect Anthony Grumbine traces the work of George Washington Smith and Reginald Johnson, the two California architects whose buildings helped shape Madame Ganna Walska's Montecito estate, and how architecture and landscape come together there.
Grumbine is a senior principal and partner at Harrison Design, a former longtime chair of Santa Barbara's Historic Landmarks Commission, a past president of the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation and a Lotusland board member. He also wrote the City's Architectural Styles Guide. The talk ends with a signing of Harrison Design's new book, Transcending Tradition. It's listed for adults.
