Don’t Save the Planet! Lessons from Daoist Philosophy

A Capps Center lecture with James Miller

James Miller argues that the familiar call to “save the planet” has worked against the environmental movement. He offers Daoist philosophy, and the idea he calls Somatic Ecology, as a more hopeful way to think about people and their environment.

Miller is a professor of humanities and associate dean at Duke Kunshan University and the author of China’s Green Religion. UCSB’s Walter H. Capps Center hosts the free talk with the Religious Studies, East Asian Languages & Cultural Studies and Environmental Studies departments and the East Asia Center.
