CWC Docs: Acting Like Women
Cheri Gaulke and the Woman's Building, with the filmmakers
The Carsey-Wolf Center screens Acting Like Women (2026, 90 minutes), a documentary in which feminist artist Cheri Gaulke returns to the Woman's Building, the 1970s Los Angeles art space where a collective of women used performance as activism. Through interviews, archival footage and her own reflections, the film follows Gaulke from a Midwestern minister's household to performance artist, educator and mother.
Writer-director Cheri Gaulke and writer-producer Anne Gauldin join moderator Jenni Sorkin of UCSB's History of Art and Architecture department after the film. It's presented with the AD&A Museum exhibition Bonnie Ora Sherk: Life Frames since 1970. Free; reserve a seat to guarantee one.
